Promoting staff health and wellbeing in November

At Bertling, we value the health and well-being of our team year-round, but this November, we’re placing an extra focus on supporting staff health.

Our aim is to encourage simple, practical steps to enhance well-being, both in the workplace and beyond. A healthy, engaged workforce contributes to a positive and productive environment, benefiting us all.

This month, we invited our offices to share creative ideas and activities to boost physical and mental health. It’s been inspiring to see the enthusiasm and contributions from our teams worldwide.

Bertling Malaysia

Our Bertling team in Malaysia has been actively participating in fun and healthy activities. Every Monday, they hold a badminton session, promoting health and well-being as part of the company’s commitment to employee wellness. On 22nd November, FHB Malaysia hosted a meditation workshop to encourage a sustainable and healthy workplace. As part of this initiative, team members enjoyed oat crunch cookies and green tea, offering healthier snack options. These efforts reflect the team's dedication to fostering a resilient, harmonious, and productive workforce aligned with sustainability goals.

Bertling Hamburg

Our team at Bertling Hamburg kicked off the week with initiatives to support work-life balance, team health, and team activities. In the morning, we enjoyed a healthy team breakfast, with everyone contributing delicious and nutritious options. It was followed by a relaxing meditation and yoga session during lunchtime. It was the perfect way to refresh and recharge at the start of the week. We plan to make these activities a regular part of our office routine, helping us all focus on our health and well-being at work. A big thank you to everyone who is joining and supporting us in these initiatives!

Bertling Miami

Our team in Miami also decided to practice yoga and sent out thoughtful invitations to colleagues, highlighting all the benefits of incorporating yoga into their routines.

Yoga has many benefits such as improved flexibility, sleep, and body balance, it also reduces stress, depression, and anxiety, it can provide relief from back pain, increase strength, and improve the quality of life during illness. Moreover, yoga helps to create mental clarity and calmness even on the most stressful days.

Bertling Houston

Every Wednesday at 10 AM, our colleagues in Houston look forward to the Wellness Walk. It’s the perfect midweek break for the team to step away from their desks, get some fresh air, and enjoy a walk together for a boost in both mood and energy.

Bertling Bremen

The Bertling Bremen team embraced the Staff Health KPI focus by coming together for a beautifully organized healthy breakfast. The lively and welcoming atmosphere was enriched by colleagues contributing to a diverse spread of wholesome and delicious options, creating a moment of connection and wellness to start the day.

The breakfast featured healthy bread buns, spreads, fresh vegetables, bio and vegan marmalades, and a variety of cheeses. A special highlight was the traditional German delicacy Hackepeter, or Mett — raw minced pork seasoned with salt, pepper, and onions — blending health and cultural tradition.

Too busy enjoying the delicious selection to capture many photos, they still managed a few snapshots. The gathering wasn’t just about food — it was an opportunity to connect and foster a sense of balance. A huge thank you to everyone who contributed!

Bertling Dubai

Bertling Dubai got an early start on Staff Health Month with the creative theme "Healthy Trick or Treat Snack Day" for Halloween in the office! The team joined in the festive fun, enjoying tasty and nutritious snacks that kept everyone energized and healthy.

From colorful veggie platters to cheese bites and nut mixes, there were plenty of creative ways to enjoy treats without the guilt.

Bertling Sweden

Here are some examples of what we do to encourage staff health in Sweden

  • Health Care Allowance: Each employee in Sweden is allowed to invest in their Health with a Health care allowance. This money can be used for gym subscriptions, massages, or other activities for health (regulated by Swedish law what is allowed and not). This year as many as 39 employees have used their allowance (still counting).
  • Health Care Hour: In addition to our Health care allowance each employee can work out 30 minutes x 2 times per week connected to the lunch break. This is very appreciated and people at our office go to the gym or go on a walk often.
  • Office breakfast: Every month we organize a breakfast in the office and each time, one of our teams is responsible for inviting and organizing this breakfast. This is also very appreciated and a nice occasion to come together and prioritize time with colleagues.
  • Additional activities: We also organize additional activities for the team when we have time and when people come up with ideas. Examples this year are:
    • Kickboxing
    • Running Race & Blood giving
    • Spinning

Bertling Aberdeen

To focus on our staff health we introduced a step challenge to those who wanted to participate! This took place over the last 2 weeks in November, to encourage our team to get in daily movement however they wish, encourage taking breaks, and go outdoors.

  • Total steps:                         812,186 steps
  • Winner:                                Kirsten Pena
  • Winning step count:        91,839 steps

We are hoping to complete it again next year and beat our total steps!

In November, we also had some other activities such as sharing healthy meals and competing in a football match. A couple of other things we do regularly are:

  • Walking at lunchtimes
  • Social events – we try to have a couple throughout the year which helps boost teamwork and morale
  • Fruit bowl stocked up to encourage healthy snacks
  • Our chill-out area to encourage people to take a break from their screen time!
