Bertling successfully handled the shipment of 29 subsea structures at 471t – 8 heavy lifts with a maximum weight of 150t, including suction pile at 23m high. The total volume transported was 4,600 cbm, full vessel utilization. The cargo was collected in Marina di Carrara, Italy and successfully shipped to its destination in Lobito, Angola.
Bertling’s scope of work was engineering support, vessel charter with SAL Heavy Lift, documentation, site visit, pre-load meetings, and operation supervision. Bertling Aberdeen worked with all parties from an early stage to ensure client, end client and all surveyors were in agreement of the complex lashing and handling procedures prior to work commencing.
Two of the more complicated aspects were loading and securing the delicate manifold to the transport frame, which required exact positioning to dock correctly, and the securing of the 23m high suction pile through an open hatch. All work was completed in a timely manner once alongside and delivered safely within stated transit time. On site, Chris Wightman controlled and managed the operation with professionalism and in line with Bertling’s high health and safety standards.
