With other modes of transport, the shipping time can be significantly longer.

WHAT IS AIR FREIGHT?

In an age where quick responses are essential to avoid production losses, air freight is an invaluable resource. International air freight allows goods to be shipped to geographically distant destinations with almost immediate departure. It is optimal for transporting smaller goods to faraway places, with delivery times significantly shorter than many other shipping options.

The price of air freight varies depending on the specific shipment and is determined by the airline based on supply and demand. Several factors influence the calculation of the price, including pick-up from the customer, duration of air transport, airport and customs fees, and final delivery. Additionally, currency exchange rates, fuel surcharges, and transit times are often reflected in air freight prices. This means that prices increase when transit time decreases. While we cannot provide exact prices, Bertling can assist you in determining the cost and securing competitive rates through our extensive network of airlines.

WHEN CAN AIR SHIPPING BE CHEAPER THAN SEA SHIPPING?

Generally, air freight is more expensive than sea freight due to its faster delivery service. Sea freight is typically the better option if the cargo is not time-sensitive. The cost of air freight is calculated based on chargeable weight, which is determined by considering both the weight and size of the shipment.

A general guideline is that if your air freight cargo measures less than 0.5 cubic meters and weighs under 100 kg, air freight often competes in price with sea freight. This is because the minimum chargeable volume for sea freight is 1 cubic meter, regardless of whether the actual volume is less. When a shipment exceeds 0.5 cubic meters and 100 kg, sea freight becomes more cost-effective than air freight. Around the 500-kilogram mark, ocean freight becomes significantly cheaper.

It's important to note that these weight cut-offs are approximate, as shipping costs can fluctuate and do not remain static.
